Something About Mary

Lovely Lady
Lovely Lady dressed in blue--
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little Boy,
Tell me what to say!
Did you lift Him up, sometimes,
Gently, on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way
Mother does to me?
Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you every try
Telling stories of the world?
O! And did He cry?
Do you really think He cares
If I tell Him things--
Little things that happen? And
Do the Angels' wings
Make a noise? And can He hear
Me if I speak low?
Does He understand me now?
Tell me--for you know.
Lovely Lady dressed in blue
Teach me how to pray!
God was just your little boy,
And you know the way.
I don't know who wrote this, but I always picture Fulton J Sheen saying this. I love that man!

  1. I have a special love for this prayer. My oldest two memorized it to recite at a church event (can't remember the event!) that my mom hosted. My dd was quite little - maybe 4 or 5.

  2. This poem was on a plaque hanging in my bedroom when I was a little girl. I've always loved it! The Foxhoven Singers have a musical version of this that I think captures the peacefulness and sweetness of it perfectly ("Let the Little Children Come" is the name of the CD -- I'm pretty sure I got it from CHC)
